“THE SECRET OF GETTING AHEAD IS GETTING STARTED ”
MARK TWAIN

Owner and Therapist, Penny Carlton, LISW
I've been told by past clients that I'm honest, genuine, compassionate, understanding and help them feel comfortable enough to discuss their deepest thoughts, feelings and experiences without fear of judgement.
Asking for help is incredibly brave and is the first step to living a more satisfying life. Everyone can benefit from therapy because life can be hard, confusing and stressful. I'll help motivate you to work on your goals, improve your relationships, move on from your past and start feeling better. It can be helpful to get a new, objective perspective on the issues you're dealing with.
My goal has always been to live a life according to my values. One of my biggest values is to have passion and excitement for what I do. This value led me to opening my own therapy practice. I'm thrilled to be doing what I'm passionate about. When I'm not counseling, I'm spending time with my very energetic six year old daughter and husband, running, enjoying the outdoors or taking a spontaneous road trip.
Experience
I graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelors in Psychology and a Masters in Social Work. I have over 10 years of experience working in the field of mental health. While I was attending college, I worked with individuals with disabilities and volunteered on a crisis, suicide hotline. After I graduated from college, I started my career working for Veterans Affairs as a Clinical Social Worker doing individual, couples and group counseling for veterans struggling with substance use and mental health issues. I then worked at a group private practice providing psychotherapy. My caseload mostly consisted of adult women experiencing stressful life transitions, feeling stuck in their lives, struggling with relationship issues, depression and anxiety.
